About DE&S

• The DE&S is the nodal agency   to coordinate all statistical activities in the State. The data compiled and reports generated are useful for informed planning and policy decisions at the Government.

• The Statistical activities in the State started with the establishment of a small cell under the Planning & Reconstruction Department, Government of Odisha in 1950. Sequential development of this small cell into the present DE&S is outlined below:

Evolution of DE&S

Transferred to the Finance Department.

Declared a separate Directorate named the Bureau of Statistics and Economics (BSE) for better coordination of statistical activities in the State.

BSE was brought under the administrative control of the Planning and Coordination Department to streamline planning and statistical activities in the State.

Renamed as the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DE&S), marking a broader focus on economic and statistical activities.

Recognized as the Nodal Agency for coordinating all statistical activities in the state reinforcing its central role in data-driven governance.
